The Dreaming Heretic

Decentralizing My Tech

I have decided to change my relationship with technology. I am going to be focused on sticking to FOSS when I can and open source regardless. I am wanting to make a point rather than be fed what is convenient. Currently, most of my digital life is locked into the Google ecosystem. Not only am I interested in deGoogling my life, but I am also looking to decentralize my digital life. I prefer to go by the way of smaller, specialized service providers rather than going with a tech giant. A common path, and I have tried it last year, is to invest into a non-Google service provider like Proton. The problem here is the lack of diversification. Little gets resolved by locking into another ecosystem.

I am planning on overhauling my PC. I have a laptop running two SSDs. I am dual booting Windows 11 and EndeavourOS from one 256GB drive while using a 1TB drive for storage. It has been problematic to say the least. I am going to rearrange things so Windows stays on the 256GB drive and EndeavourOS runs on the 1TB drive. I intend to use Linux as my daily driver system and keep the Windows system for specialized tasks. I am taking classes through Western Governor’s University (WGU) and they require Windows to take the exams via Guardian Browser. I can’t completely abandon Windows right now. The games I play all run on Linux and are generally available on Steam. For Warcraft 3, I can install the Battle.net launcher within Steam.

As far as deGoogling, I am planning the following tech stack:
